This is just not true.

I love it - it says "you will be arrested". Not "there is a chance" or "you could be", but "you will".

Where I voted early this morning, there was a 25 minute line that did move rather steadily. There was a guy in a suit and tie with a clipboard who identified himself as an attorney for the Virginia Voter something or other. He was very clear to everyone in line. He said "Do not let anyone intimidate you. If you are here you will be allowed to vote." Then with a bit of fire in his voice he said "You have the right to vote. Do not leave until you vote". He was very clear on this.

I'm bringing one of my younger children with me to vote. I have always done this, and as a result, my children understand and cherish their right to vote.

My older son recently traveled 200 miles from school to vote absentee (in person). It was his first Presidential election, and he was so excited. He said that he didn't put his "I voted" sticker on afterwards, instead he said he saved it to remember the moment.

I was surprised to see them using both electronic machines and paper ballots in my precinct this morning. Did they use paper ballots in all locations? It certainly helps speed up the process, although I did still wait for 50 minutes in line before voting. What a mob scene, I've never seen anything like this on election day.

And evidently there aren't many people whose last name begins with S thru Z living in my district. You coulda walked right in if your name was at the end of the alphabet!

Voted in about 5 minutes this morning early at Centreville High School. No stories to tell.

About 50 minutes for me (got in line at 6:05). Saw lots of people taking the democratic sample ballot, only one took the republican sample ballot. Had paper and electronic voting options. Nobody was in the E-K and S-Z lines, which irked me since those weren't MY lines.

No one in the M-Z line at Woodson High School this am - walked right up and voted without waiting.

i only waited about 20 min in the S-Z line (the longest line). If my last name began with A-R i would have been out in 5 min...no lines...A-R was empty and it would have taken me longer to fill out the ballot then to wait in line. Meanwhile S-Z was about 15 people deep.

I've actually never voted before, for several different reasons.

What can I expect when I show up to my voting place?

It's simple,

1) Show up at the School and there will be millions of signs directing you the place, usually the school gym.

2) There will be a table to ladies who are about 90 years old and they will have two or three lines labeled A-F G-M N-Z etc... Depends on the break out of names. Get in the one with first letter of your last name.

3) They look you up on a paper list and then cross your name out, They then give you a piece of paper and you get driected to a voting both. You go in cast your vote and then give the paper to the guy, That's it, take the rest of the day off.

LOL, I guess I lucked out. S-Z had no wait so I was in/out in less than 5 minutes. The long line was L-R I think.

Something like this happened to a friend of mine....

In and out in 15 minutes at Clifton Elementary, choice of paper or electronic ballots, all went very smoothly.

I too was in and out in five minutes.. it would have been faster, but there was this hot girl voting next to me and I was considering seeing if she would take my "exit pole" in the parking lot.

Brookfield Elementary in at 1:50 out at 2:05. Where are the lines?

I heard the line early this am was down the sidewalk. I went at lunchtime and it was a breeze-5-10 minutes top.

I voted around 10:30 this morning and had about a minute wait, but I chose the paper ballot. There was a 10 -15 minute wait for the electronic machines. But there were more people there than I had ever seen during the day at an election and I vote every election, even off presidential years.

The turn out is definitely more than previous years.

Chantilly also had choice of paper or electronic ballots. Walked right up and voted...At 2pm thier were no lines.

Voted at Oak View on Sideburn Road around 11am. The 'H-N' line had about 30 people while the others had practically zero. I was probably out of there in 20 minutes.

Best part was watching the group of six moms with their 15 or so home schooled (or Trinity Christian School - hard to tell which) kids getting all excited about seeing Keith Fimian outside. One kid said that "it was like shaking hands with Jesus!" and another said that people shouldn't vote for Gerry Connolly since he is evil. Where do kids get this stuff? Oh, right, from their batshit crazy, intolerant, homophobic, fundamentalist parents who think that Sarah Palin is going to be President in 2012.

No one in line. I guess there is little interest in this election. There was one asshole riding a bicycle around the parking lot with an Obama sign attached. Too bad I didn't have a stick to put in his spokes!

I was standing in line which was pretty long for an election line.

Anyways, I figured i'd be in line for a good 20 mins or so. And i'm in line right behind this black guy. So for the sake of boredom i decide to try and make small talk with the dude. I mean it's a 20 minute line, might as well try and start up a conversation with the person next to me. Try and be cordial and shit right??? So he's kind of like half turned towards me anyway, so i say to him....

"So i bet I can guess who you're voting for today!?"

Then he just looks at me like he wants to stomp my ass into the ground. He just stands there and glares at me for like a whole fucking minute....

Tha' fuck was up with this motherfucker??? Some people be mad grumpy in the morning. Must have not had his coffee yet or some shit....

In and out in about 20 mins at Mantua Elem. My fault though as I made a mark on the paper ballot by mistake and it spit it out as a double vote so I had to void it and fill out another.

Here's what actually happened...




The guy didn't threaten anyone. He also didn't prevent anyone from going into the polling place. A stick isn't a weapon if you aren't using it on anyone. Sounds to me like the idiot with the camera was trying to start shit.

The paper ballots make it a breeze if you don't want to wait for an electronic machine

I am usually a go-with-the-flow kinda of guy, and not much ever happens to me, but today was a different story.

I went to scan my paper ballot in the machine.

I noticed the green LCD screen on the left of the scanner. I read "Total Vote Count" or something to that affect. I read the vote total, and then scanned my ballot.

The vote count did NOT change. it was 12,837 before I scanned and 12,837 after I scanned. It should have gone up one vote , right?

So I s/w the Va Election Board. They will be getting back with me later tonight ..

I also called the DNC local HQ and just to be fair I called the RNC local HQ.
Both were very interested even though I did not tell either who I voted for.

Polling place #520 at Skyline Mall (Bailey's Crossroads), 3-4 PM; no waiting.
I voted a provisional ballot on paper. Regular voters could use either the machines or the paper, I think. Was there for a long time due to my situation, didn't see any problems. Volunteer staff and officials of the usual competence. Helpful and working hard for everyone.

I voted in a very large precinct in the liberal bastion of Reston at 11:30 - there were only 10 other voters. Much less traffic than 2004.

The touch screens are being phased out as they break down which is happening fairly quickly.

Surprisingly, at the precinct at which i worked, more than twice as many voters chose to use the touch screen as the paper ballots.

Actually, I think they are offering paper ballots for people who are uneasy with the electronic voting machines.

I realize they are easy to tamper with and all that, but so are paper ballots.

If someone wants to commit vote fraud, they're going to do it no matter what method of voting is used.

No, the phase out of touch screen is official state policy.

Voter fraud is a myth used to justify voter suppression tactics. Out of 122 million votes cast, there were less than 24 cases of alleged voter fraud in 2004. That's less than 0.0000001 percent?

We want the audit trail to correct for non-malicious human error.
