Hi, I am the FFXU doctor. What you will need is doxycycline. How much do you weigh?

Agree with above poster regarding doxycycline. Your doc will probably give you about 10 days worth which should wipe out the symptoms. If you are still feeling tired or not quite right, it may be more than just Lyme.

I suggest you see an infectious disease specialist. There is one at Waples Mill at rt. 50 which was pretty good.

Keep in mind, the blood tests are not very reliable and can produce false positives and false negatives. The two tests check for either long term or short term antibodies in the blood stream. Google it, you can learn a lot.

Definitely worth speaking to a specialist after you finish up your round of Doxy, to get a second opinion, and do run another blood test. Best of luck!

lyme tests are not reliable...many are false positives. Best precaution is to take 14-day AB course..Doxy will kill if anything is pressent.

I believe it was Dr. Murliya D. Gowda. Hot Indian chick. Dr. Weinroth also works at the same place.

Here's the location and number, couldn't find a website:

11211 Waples Mill Rd
Fairfax, VA, 22030

(703) 246-9560

Does the doctor take insurance? I have COBRA through my previous employer's health insurance coverage.

some folks have found relief after changing their diets to include only lean meats, fruits, veggies and eliminating gluten and processed foods. their are a few of the more well known paleo supporters that suffer from lyme disease and have found relief of their symptoms by following this type of diet.

you are going to need to find an expert doc. that focuses on lyme. there is a doc in ashburn named doc. fletcher she also has lyme. you should start with her. also if your in pain stay away from pain killers they can do more harm than good and stay away from high in suger foods

As far as I can tell most of the above is bullshit. I got Lyme a couple months back and just went through the treatment. You can go to the CDCs website and what I tell you now is what they have as the course of treatment.

Unless you have an allergy you will do 100 mg of doxycycline twice a day for 3 weeks and then they test for antibodies. If it comes back dirty you do 3 more weeks. If that comes back dirty you sit on your hands for 3 months praying it doesnt come back because in the immortal words of Rooster Cogburn.."I can do nothing for you son."

Extending antibiotic treatment beyond the above has not proven effective.

The doxy is a bit of a pain because you have restrictions on when you can and cant eat in relation to when you take it.

They watch more for symptoms than rely on tests. In my case I had the flu like stuff and then the classic "bulls eye" rash.

The only thing my doc,who is an ID guy and internist asked about was joint pain, if I get it, I need to come back STAT.

Most people the ABs dont work on have weak immune systems like the real young or old.

Something like 20% dont get the rash and thus arent treated, those are the ones who you tend to read about on the Internet that have weird lingering symptoms that pop up down the road. The virus goes to ground and then comes back and among other things wreaks havoc on joints.

http://www.cdc.gov/lyme/

Good luck,it sucks I know.

One last thing, find out who your doc uses for the test. I will save the long story but I had my first done at Sunrise Medical Labs(I am a pay as you go patient). I thought my tests were covered in my doctors bill...I got a nasty surprise when I got a crazy bill from Qwest, it was 150% MORE than my previous tests. The tech said she had worked at both Qwest and LabCorp and they rape you. Dont take my word for it call and compare. Maybe it doesnt matter under your insurance but if it does check

This is going to become a major issue - nasty stuff

Both of our kids have had it

One didn't get the bullseye, but then started showing the early symptoms - whacked it with antibiotics

Second we spotted the start of the bullseye and caught it immediately - again a course of antibiotics

You do have to wonder how many people (especially adults) have had it and not realized - either shaken it off or its gone quiescent

Hopefully, given that humans are not part of the main reproductive cycle, we shouldn't have to worry to much about antibiotic resistance

there are people who have unexplained pain in their body. a developing theory is that these people have had lyme disease at some point, undiagnosed probably. oh yeah, lyme disease is named after the town where the first case was found (Lyme, CT). Lyme, CT is directly across the water from a military research facility on Long Island. Some sources online say they were researching biological warfare, and that this is where Lyme disease came from. Just use google and you can find more information.

I don't even have to read it or search it and I can tell you it came from Wikipedia. What are you new to the Internet or something?

Please cite the source. I've read a lot about Lyme Disease, but this sounds like nonsense.
