Welcome to Fairfax Underground, a project site designed to improve communication among residents of Fairfax County, VA. Feel free to post anything Northern Virginia residents would find interesting.
New Ice Cream shop in Fairfax, it's called Sugar Mama's. Located at the corner of Lee Hwy and Jermantown Rd in Fairfax City, across from the new Walmart and Big Lots. Old fashioned real ice cream, handmade with no artifical ingredients. Real cream, real sugar, real good. About 20 flavors to choose from.
Yawn. Another ice cream store. Why would I pay $6 for a single cone when I can get a quart of premium ice cream at Safeway for $4?
How you going to pay the bills when the outside temp is 32 degrees? The only business model that works for retail ice cream is to have a shop at the shore where you literally have them lined up for 30 feet all day long.
Those people make enough in the summer to take the winter off. The store in high rent Fairfax with lots of competition isn't so hot.

You mean like Baskin-Robbins? Go back to your government job.

Sugar Mama's

Woody's: where you get to choose between chocolate and vanilla. I've never understood the hype. I hope Vicki is someone who actually put some effort into making ice cream, instead of some old guy who bought a soft serve machine.
Thoroughly unimpressed. I had two scoops of ice cream in a bowl, and both had that "ice crystal" consistency -- kinda like the ice cream had melted a bit then refrozen. The flavor of ice cream was just what you'd get from Giant.. and Giant's ice cream usually has a good consistency (ie - no ice crystals).
Sugar Mama's better get their act together before they become live on Yelp. For me, I'll stick with Woody's and Rita's.

You can tell this is a fake competitor post because they claim Rita's sells ice cream.
If we get many more fucking ice cream/frozen yogurt/custard joints around here were going to have to start putting up insulin kiosks at every corner.
Seriously, what's with the sugar stores? All of a sudden there's one ever 1/2 mile. Is there really so much demand to get fat and sick? Are we that bereft of an original idea that after one or two went in with success, someone after someone after someone thought that the public's ice cream needs may not be met with the existing ice cream infrastructure, requiring the addition of several more "shoppes"?
I can think of a minimum of 7 (SEVEN!!!) ice cream/froyo/custard joints in the city of Fairfax alone. It took me 30 seconds to come up with that number so I'm sure I missed a few. In comparison I can think of one health food store, and that one didn't even really count.

What health food store are you opening again? Missed the name in the post.
Post a pic of a receipt from something you bought in the last month at a health food store.
WTF has that got to do with anything? The reality is that there are enough stupid, grasping at anything idiots in the area who will pony up the $$$ for a franchise or "can't miss business"...
that miss. We're then treated to tales of the eeeevil bankers and such who wouldn't allow these suckers... er, dumbf*cks "access to the American Dream" or some nonsense.
Hey, anyone want a TCBY franchise next to a Blockbusters?
