Springfield Towncenter:
Details from thier webiste that is now online:
Overview
The proposed Springfield Town Center development will replace the existing Mall with an urban, pedestrian-friendly environment that will be a magnet in which people can live, work and play. Upon its completion, Springfield Town Center will be a true metropolitan community with a reinvigorated regional shopping center, new Class A offices, a hotel, and urban-style retail, as well as an integrated residential component, all of which will extend the life and activity beyond traditional mall hours by attracting a variety of new patrons. One of the first steps in this proposed redevelopment will be a complete transformation of the Mall to rejuvenate the existing interior retail areas. A new internal layout will reduce and realign the confusing corridors and consolidate the two movie theaters and disjointed food options into one more unified design.
Timing
The development of the Springfield Town Center is a multi-year, multi-phase project that will reinvigorate a tired, isolated shopping mall. Renovation work on the mall is expected to begin in the spring of 2009 with a fall 2010 opening.
The office buildings and residences are part of the longer-term development plan, which will take between 10 and 15-plus years.
Size
Today, the Mall measures about 1.8 million square feet. Approximately 175,000 square feet of new retail space is proposed, bringing the Mall’s total to 2 million square feet. A hotel and approximately 2,200 homes also are included in the redevelopment, as well as +/-1.1 million square feet of new office.
