Cell phones now allowed in Fairfax County courts?

I'd always be required to check in my cell phone when entering the court but this last time I went, they said I didn't need to check it in and I could take it with me. When did these rules change? It still says that you need to check in your cellphone that have cameras on their official site, so I don't get it. And yes, my phone does have a camera.

Most phones also have an audio recording app or function as well. Good question.

They changed the policy this winter. You can bring in a phone, even a camera phone, but you cannot use it in the courtroom, and make sure you mute it (or put it in airplane mode or turn it off) when you're in the courtroom because they will confiscate it without giving you a warning. The only time you're allowed to use the camera is if you're at a marriage ceremony, although if you use it to scan a document via a scanner app you aren't likely to run into trouble as long as you're not in the courtroom.
