School's In, Commute's Worse

Do you notice a big difference in your commute times when school is in session?

I think it makes a huge difference in terms of how many cycles you have to wait for the awful Backlick light on eastbound Braddock. Five minutes on that light alone around 8 in the morning. The impact on the afternoon/evening never seemed that bad.

Did you just move here? This is nothing new and the WaPo had a story on this a couple of days ago. It is like the swallows coming back to Capistrano.

Took me about 50 minutes to get from Chantilly to Crystal City on I-66 in my high-powered HOV car (with the old-skewl plates that'd let me go HOV on I-395, w00t.) Now it's more like 1 hour, 10 minutes -- the delays after Rt. 123 are about the same, it's getting from Rt. 28 to Rt. 123 that is longer now.

Be careful in those school zones, folks.

I drove through three of them today and the popo was working radar in ALL THREE!
