What is replacing KMart in Fairfax?

I see that Kmart in Fairfax is closing. Does anyone know what they plan to put in that space? That shopping center could use an upgrade overall? Anyone familliar with plans for that area?

Its probably going to be another Grand Mart, or a similar rice-based supermarket.

What would go in there? No American grocery store would go there with Wegmans, Walmart and Giant all within a mile or so, but I could see an Asian store as a possibility. Maybe Target would build there? Whoever moves in, they're likely to tear down the old Kmart and rebuild.

I'm thinking of getting back into the business of poorly-stocked, understaffed, and high-priced home improvement goods. Would this be a good location for that?

There's already 2 Targets. I'd like to see Lotte move in there because their current Fairfax locations is terrible for the loading dock (trucks back in interrupting traffic flow) and parking is awful.

Go for it John, in your heyday, you were far, far better than Home Despot or Lowe's.

Real lumber, not that tree farm shit they sell nowadays.

We remember Hechinger in the end, but in earlier years it was a different place. Also remember that when Home Depot first went in they went for better informed help than it seems you find today. As for wood quality, I suspect that all bulk wood sellers are selling the same shit.

This is a great opportunity for the county to purchase the site, tear down the building, and create new luxury housing free for undocumented immigrants. Of course, we will have to raise your taxes to fund it!

Fairfax could use an Aldi. Doubt that's what actually ends up there, but wishful thinking I guess.

They should tear down that Boston Market as well...it's an eyesore.

Fuck you, you'd like to see a Lotte there. Can you imagine what a CF the 29/Jermantown intersection will turn into with WalMart on one side and a Gooktopia on the other? It could actually just be fun to put a chair on the sidewalk and watch.
I doubt ill be here to see what the old KMart turns into. If, for some reason I am still here and it turns into a Lotte/GrandMart/Other "international" foods store, I will put my house in FFX City up for sale immediately.

Maybe they'll tear the whole thing down and pave over the asphalt with some sod, plant some trees and make it into a park (haha).

They built Tiffany's in the parking lot of the Tysons K-Mart, and the K-Mart became a parking garage. Marked the beginning of the downhill slide of that area, for sure.

That store is too big, they should divide it in half and put a drugstore on one side and a bank on the other side. It is so hard to find a bank around here. If there is any room left over, maybe a new Tippy's Taco house?

The property is big enough for a big box home improvement store (likely Lowe's) and since Hechinger's was once a block away and they experimented with Expo (Home Depot concept) it is conceivable that something told investors thats a decent spot to put that type of store. Two closures may be a deterrent however, but the success and proximity of the Walmart may sweeten the pot.

All you dummies all just bitch about Asian people all the time. Sorry, but there's A LOT of Asian people in Fairfax. It figures that there would be Asian stores and Asian supermarkets.

The K-Mart will not become another Asian supermarket. Why, because the Korean H-Mart is 2 miles down the street next to the Party City. There is an even bigger one at Lotte next to Bowl America.

The K-Mart went under because the Wal Mart across the street put them out of their misery, right after they took out the Bloom next door.

It's going to be a tough spot to fill. American Grocery will not survive with that competition. Electronics probably won't either. Whatever store it is, it's going to have to do big business in order to take over a huge space like that. I don't think there's a clothing store around there. If a cheap, popular store like Forever 21 would open there I think they could do okay. They probably are exclusive to Malls though.

There isn't a whole foods in central fairfax. There's one in Springfield and then one in Fair Lakes. Those two spots are pretty far apart. I thought the spot that Ross moved into near Woodson would've been a good spot. This wouldn't be a bad location although its kinda near the fair lakes one.

A flea market? Ugh...

Take down the Kmart building and do like the Chantilly fast food gaggle of Hooter's, Chick-fil-A, etc., except put in a Steak and Shake, White Castle, In-n-Out, Yoshinoya, Jack-in-the-Box, Whataburger, Sonic, Del Taco, Tim Horton's, maybe even a Luby's and with the remaining space, whatever locals might fit. With all of the imports to this area from around the country who miss home and the high-traffic location, I bet they'd make a bundle.
