About once a month for the past 10 years, I get take out from Harvest Moon. Obviously I like it, but the place gets seriously bashed on Yelp. I guess it was much more popular (and maybe more better) about 20 years ago --- ?

But I still think it does a good job on ribs, wings, fried rice ... plus there's always a huge wedding or other banquet going on that is largely populated by Asian chicks wearing dresses slit up to their crotch, so it also has that going for it.

The owner told me it was a Blackies Steak House back in the 1980s. I'm surprised there hasn't been any photos of that area (e.g., Loehmann's Plaza) on the Fairfax pic thread.

It was called the Black Angus (not part of the Blackie's restaurant group). Before that, it was a slot car race track place, and even before that is was a Kroger grocery store (going back to the early 60s). I grew up nearby, and wish I had some pictures to share.

Thanks for the clarification.

Do you ever go there and is the food better/worse/ or about the same over the years?

The bar has a Lowenbrau tap so you can tell it's been dead for a while but I wonder if it was ever hopping.

This must be a joke. Harvest Moon spends more time closed by the Health Department than it spends open. Maybe it's good if you like rat droppings on your food?

Nah, you're wrong. I pulled up Harvest Moon's health inspections back to 2010, they've never been written up for rodents and there's no evidence that they've been close for health reasons.

On the other hand, Hong Kong Palace had fly strips filled with dead insects hanging over food pots ... on multiple inspections!! YUCK!!

(BTW, I checked the other places listed above and they were all as bad or worse than Harvest Moon.)

Surprisingly affordable, Peking Village II. Either on Fairfax Blvd or Gallows Road. Both are as real as it can get here, and with their prices and serving portions=one happy customer.

Hasn't the Peking Village at Gallows Road changed ownership and has a new name. The one on Fairfax Blvd. changed ownership, but not the name.

The Fortune Restaurant on 50 by the Home Depot is a nice option.

Miu Kee served my family burnt chow fun noodles and told me that is how some folks like it. I have not been back in over 2 years. Fuc them.

Actually my mom cooked the best Chinese food.. Love you mom :'(.

Magic Wok in springfield/alexandria........I've eaten at about 30 chinese places in fairfax and this dominates them all. Every single thing I've had there is the best and I don't eat chinese anymore unless I'm in that area. Not many people know about it, but their meat is much better quality/soups have strong flavor/vegatables are fresh and crispy/dumplings are unreal. The string bean chicken and mongolian chicken are my go to. I try to tell people about this place but no one likes to try new chinese places and just accept the crap they always get
