drying football field at westfield H.S. with a helicopter

I read on wikipedia that in 2002, their football coach tried to dry the field off with a helicopter... during the game?

"On October 11, 2002, a tremendous downpour postponed a Westfield varsity football game against rival Centreville for the Concorde District championship. Head coach Tom Verbanic, desperate to keep the game on time, had the field covered with tarps and hired a helicopter in an attempt to dry the field. Several thousand dollars later, the game was still postponed until November 17. The match resulted in a win for Westfield, earning the school's first district championship title.[65] The use of the helicopter for drying grass was later criticized heavily.[66]"

When I went to Fairfax HS, Verbanic was Fairfax's coach (late 90s). I think. Anyway, how do you rent a helicopter in the spur of the moment like that? I would love to see some pictures of this event. It sounds really retarded that this actually happened. lol. You could dry that field with one or two Little Wonder blowers (I know- I own one).

Proof positive that the schools here are FUBAR.

Between this nonsense and the tens of thousands of kids educated in bathroom-less trailers, FCPS is just that -- trailer trash.

Yes, this is true. One of the faculty members either had a personal helicopter or knew someone who did, so it didn't cost any money for the school/athletics department.

While it seemed ridiculous and completely unnecessary, it definitely worked! Field was pretty dry after!

Except that, if you believe the quote from Wikipedia in the OP (maybe you have good reason to doubt it), the game was postponed even after the attempt to dry out the field was attempted. If that was the case, the field was probably not "dry as fuck" after the helicopter treatment.

"dry as fuck" = pretty damn wet

If your fucks are not wet, you're doing it wrong.

In Fairfax anything is possible. This is without a doubt, the strangest jurisdiction I've ever lived in.
