I know that it will kill Gerry Pannoni to hear this but I believe that CVille has Gerry Pannoni to thank for their state title. The scare that South County gave CVille made them aware that they could be beaten and the come back in the second half made them a much more poised team.

At the Glory Days where I watched the game they said C'ville assigned the task to Nickens-Yzer to shut down #4 and he delivered. XNY didn't get a lot of attention this year bc of cville's great defensive line and backers but he's a hell of a player...

I somewhat agree with you. I think that team was so confident, they were not all that concerned. That being said, it was still a wake up call for them

Hats off to Centreville. They were the class of 2013 and deserved to win the State Championship. The Concord District is tough and they continue to show the other teams in NOVA that TEAMs win championships. Funny how teams with one or two very good players never seem to make it very far (ie. LB with their Classless coach who is a "Big Time" loser!). Those kids over at Centreville worked very hard and deserved what earned.

Smith's QB looked like he was on the C'ville payroll. 3 fumbles where he just dropped the ball without being hit. I know the ball was wet and he's a youngin, but dang he did everything he could to give the game away. And the way C-ville's defense was hawking the ball, OS couldn't afford mistakes. Instead, they had at least a dozen major mistakes. Great game by the Wildcats, just too much speed for OS.

Pure domination by CVHS. I was impressed from start to finish of the game as well as entire season. I knew early in the game that OS was in for a long day, when their frustration had them barking at each other. Even the coach of OS lost it with his players during his 2nd quarter timeout.

Brown (#65) and the DLine were shocked after the first CV drive and never really put up much of a fight after that. The pick 6 by #4 turned out to be a game sealer.

My voice is hoarse, my hands and feet may not thaw out til Tuesday, but this here CVille fan is feeling great! Complete and utter domination against the #8 ranked team in the USA. Shows you those rankings are mostly hype and PR.

Looking forward to watching the "film" - I recorded the game on TV - but here's my observations:

- There was no doubt that the single biggest difference between these two teams was at the QB position. I said on an earlier post that Scotty would need the game of his life for CV to win. Well he did have the game of his life, though an avg game may have been enough. This was not going to be a throwing day for either team, but Walter's running ability clearly caught OS off guard.

- The 2nd biggest difference was coaching. OS had no idea how to stop CV's misdirection plays, and the OS playbook must be pretty thin because they run pretty basic stuff. Haddock clearly outcoached the OS staff.

- As "BeamerBall" wrote, Andrew Brown didn't do anything all game. I couldn't tell much there as far as if he was being double-teamed a lot or not. He outweighed everyone else on the field by seemingly 50 lbs. He looks very athletic, but that doesn't make him a football player.

- As great as Walter played, and clearly the game MVP, a case could be made for OS' Josh Sweat. Oh my goodness, was he awesome. And I mean awesome. He will be the one we will be hearing about the most in college, not Brown. Sweat is only a Jr, and doesn't get the pub that Brown or Bradshaw get, or even McClease, but I hope he follows Bradshaw and joins my beloved Hokies. Of course since he has offers from FL State and SEC schools, not sure he'll end up at VT. What a talent, what an athlete. If he can gain some weight in college then we may be watching him play on Sundays in a few years.

- The CV kid on these posts who said Charles Tutt was fine this week, well either was full of crap and not as connected as we thought, or else just hiding the secret. Tutt was pretty messed up after the Westfield game, and as recently as Wednesday could barely walk. He played sparingly today, thankfully they didn't need him much, since Bradshaw didn't have many balls his way with the rain and bad play of Mitchell. Tutt was more of a decoy today.

- Speaking of Mitchell - Freshman, big stage, big choke. I felt bad for him, clearly he was not ready. QB is the most important of any position in any sport, and you simply cannot win with bad QB play. (Unless you are Trent Dilfer of the Ravens.)

- McClease...overrated? Wow, for a kid with offers from several D1 schools...I just didn't see it. Maybe just great D by CV, but I expected more from the 150th ranked junior in the country.

- OS "other 18". Take away OS "big four"...there is not much left. Linebackers did nothing, OLine couldn't block, safety's weren't anywhere to be seen. As other posters have said, this OS team is not nearly the level of the 2011 team with all their D1 players like JC Coleman, Melvin Vaugn, etc.

- And I can't leave without a shout-out to Chad Wiggins. What a game, what a season. BTW, his transfer to CV from Freedom (I think) was no different than what Andrew Brown did, or Henderson for that matter, so stop the Andrew Brown hating. If a kid's family wants to move, whatever the reason, that's their choice. Period.

VTboy out...go Cats!!! Can't wait to watch the tape, and read the 757 newspaper links that you guys are posting!

Just got back from UVA. Bird's W: (1) open slither holes for #5 in 2nd half; and (2) in mid-Q3, takeaway lanes BW's QB was using to run and pass. Before that, #22 was rushing too far in and out; post-adjustment, no more O. CV's W: (1) congrats for reversing 2011 and beating a team going for its 3rd title in 6 years; (2) you showed you were more battle-tested, you won one-on-one match-ups at LOS and you forced a young QB into making bad reads and passes; (3) when it was "on" OS to respond after your 1st drive, you got a Pick 6; (4) your QB-good deception + scampered for yards in seams; (5) you again showed how tough it is to stay on top and why teams here command state-wide respect. Starting with Annandale in early 1990s, 6-7 schools here have titled in D6 and that excludes LB teams. Most years Concord champ brings it except in 2011 and in 2012 when Oakton had a great run but ran into then-D6 Bird that nobody could stop w/Robertson; (6) you beat every team you faced this year by a wide margin.

Having seen every title game since 2001, I think that Wildcat fans have a legit argument that no D6 team in the past decade played better on title day.

Congrats to the WILDCATS! They are the most underrated football team in the country. How is it that there is only one player on the whole team with ONLY one major D1 offer (AJ Turner, South Carolina)? And there is only one player on the whole team who is nationally ranked (Xavier Nickens-Yzer, 3-star). Why no love for Walters, Tutt, Boose, Wiggins, Love and others who have been performing lights out all season long???

Meanwhile, the team that Centreville just embarrassed have 17 players who are being recruited by major D1 schools. From what I saw on Saturday, it should be the other way around.

What gives?

Re: "What gives?"

Same reason that USA Today has Oscar Smith ranked #8 in the country. It's the 757 Myth. Heavily biased by past perception and hype. Based on the CVHS games I witnessed this season, Oscar Smith is at best, the same caliber as Westfield or South County. The beating they received in Charlottesville was so humiliating, that I felt sympathy for them. At halftime, OS players and coaches on the sidelines started toward the locker room with time left on the clock, leaving teammates on the field. The offense took a knee on the last play before the half. Pathetic.

OS didn't even look as good as either Westfield or South County. These teams (esp. South County) scored some points on Centreville and at least threatened them. The championship game was just a total beat down by Centreville on a way overrated team with some overrated players.

You make my point for me by not saying who you would replace on the Coaches list. I am sorry your son did not make the All Region team, maybe he should have and somehow he was overlooked. I know they were not a great team this year, but Miles Lidnsey DE from Oakton should be on this list. 10 sacks, over 15 tackles for loss and was second on the team in total tackles. He was unanimous 1st team in the district. If the Concorde coaches think that much of you how don't you even make 2nd team? Seems fishy. Was there a new format for voting?

757 myth? OS was going for its 3rd D6 title in 6 years plus the 757 has won 7 of the past 9 D5 titles. This year, SoCo got beat by Chantilly and by CV 27-0 in Q4. Two ago OS crushed CV--so let's appreciate the rivalry. Did u notice how many young players played for OS? OS this year reminded me last year's CV that struggled to beat Hayfield in OT and Mt Vernon. CV gets all the credit this year. SoCo's had a great O this year but its program is not yet in same level as OS from year to year.

This year, CV was SO much better than OS but I would not disparage OS's program; it's the only team in VA to win 2 D6 titles in the past 6 years. Played a ton of young players Sat, including a fr on D. I was there in 2011 too. Smith's QB this year stunk on Sat--CV gets much credit for that but he missed some easy throws and made a big mistake on the pick 6 on Smith's first drive. The contrast between his play and CV's QB was stark; #5 for CV excelled--great game for him on the big stage. I can't think of one phase that CV did not win on Sat--but the reverse was true just 2 years ago. Am hooping we are seeing a rivalry coming!

It's great to see this year's CV team getting its due in nat'l and local rankings. This team beat every team it faced by at least 20 points. Considering it plays in Concord, that's a feat. The big win at UVA Sat also tells you how good this team is, taking down a team that was going for its 3rd D6 in 6 years. I have seen every D6 title game since 2001 and can tell you that no team during that time played a better title game than CV did Sat. CV went 8-4 in 2012 and struggled to beat MTV, Hayfield (OT) and put 14 on Herndon. That it could dominate the state 1 year later says volumes about the players, coaches and community at CV. Congrats to them all.

C'ville deserves a ton of credit. The only other game that could/should be considered a bigger upset in a state title game was Oakton beating Landstown and Percy Harvin in 2005. Oakton had zero chance going in that game and ended up taking a 28 to 0 lead into the 4Q and finished the game 28 to 7. It was a hell of a game.

Charles Tutt is getting a lot of interest. It's too bad he was hurt for the Championship game against OS and wasn't much more than a decoy. The scouts there didn't get to see the real Tutt. Also with the rain there wasn't much of a passing attack by OS anyway. I was looking forward to seeing him match up against Bradshaw, but didn't happen between injury and rain. Believe me he will get interest next year. He is pretty thin so hopefully he will put on some weight before next year.

As good as Walter is in football, he is better in baseball and I hear that is what he wants to play in college. He probably has a better long-term future there as well.

Hard to believe OS has 17 players being recruited...

Last comments about Oscar Smith. Did anyone notice how they crashed in when CV lined up to take a knee in the closing seconds? It happened twice and CV resorted to taking delay of game penalties to sidestep OS's poor sportsmanship. And at closing, when the players file by and pay respect for their opponents, a *lot* of the OS players walked several feet away from the CV line and refused to even make eye contact. OS will not be great (again) until the coaches restore the teams' character.

Did you hear what OS lame-ass coach Richard Morgan said? "We picked a bad day for a lot of people to not have very good games.” How about instead "I was a horrible coach today, I did not have my team ready and my offense game plan sucked".

He shouldn't have blamed it on his kids, even if they were overrated.

Yep I was there and noticed. Did you also notice Bradshaw and a CV coach jawing at each other the last few minutes? Though at the end of the game they hugged so I give Bradshaw credit for staying classy...he's going to be a Hokie so he's off to a good start.

I was waiting for a fight to break out at the end, like in the game last year between Bird and OLakes. Never happened thankfully.

You make a great point about that 2005 upset. Although Landstown 2005 was not as good as its 2004 title team, it was a heavy favorite over Oakton. Great point and another example of how tough it is to stay on top in D6.

Good to see the Concorde take home the State Title. Top to bottom (well, maybe not bottom/Herndon), they prove year in and year out they have the most quality depth in the State. I thought Westfield would give C'Ville a closer match in the Northern final, but they did not have quality QB play. I think if they had a QB like #17 on last years team, it would be a much better matchup. THat said, C'ville seemed to dominate the line of scrimmage so may not have mattered.

Congrats Wildcats, thanks for bringing the title back to NOVA!

Of course they could. This years Centreville team is loaded at every position, that Westfield team was awesome, but not as athletic across the board like Centreville 2013. Makes for a great debate over a beer with High School football fans.

NOT SO FAST! Like the 2011 and 2012 version, these would be very close games, as the QB was the missing link at WHS this year and not in previous years (especially 2007....an NFL caliber QB makes up for alot). Not saying Centreville wouldnt beat these teams, but it would be a far shot from a shoe in. They would be very close games with a lot of good players on both sides of the ball. And yes, a would be a good debate over a beer because we will never ever know.

The best football team of all time in NOVA was probably the 1978 Annandale team. They ended up undefeated and #1 ranked nationally after defeating Highland Springs in the state championship.

Great to see this old film and Annandale used to have great teams, this one being one of their best. They would rank right up their with the Westfield 07 team. The differences are the domination by this years Centreville team over EVERY team they played, winning EVERY game by a minimum of 20 points. Neither of these other teams was able to do that.

Actually, 20 points is more than 3 tds. 3 tds is 18 points (each td is worth 6 points).

That Conference 13 All Conference Team is an absolute joke - no offense intended.

They let Stone Bridge schedule all of the teams in that Conference, then placed them out in Loudoun for Conference 14 All-Conference teams.

Stone Bridge was down this year, but lets remember that they still almost beat Braddock.

Stone Bridge beats this All Conference team by 21 points!

All hail the Centreville Wildcats! They beat the Smith Tigers handily in one of the most surprising games in recent memory. Centreville will be remembered for the focus and dedication they showed in avenging their loss to the same Tigers two years ago. These kids talked about the 2011 loss openly and said they were using it as motivation to get back to UVA for payback. 15-0 against Concorde District teams, winning every game by a minimum of 20 points makes them one of the best teams to come out of this area.

Not sure about BEST team from Northern Virginia, but definetly in the conversation as one of the best. The stats speak for themselves, and if you watched this team this year you know they could have destroyed teams if they had wanted to. Half of their games were over at halftime and the starters were out. So the stats could have been much more dominant if Haddock wanted them to be. If Thompson from Stone Bridge was coaching this team they would have had set State records for points scored and fewest points allowed.

No team in recent memory won all their games all year long in such a dominating fashion. 15-0 undefeated State Champions.
