ALTO PLAZA IS FOR SALE?

The word on the street is that Alto Plaza is for sale.

Even though the appearance is that they are busy, it costs an incredible amount to run the business.

Anyone heard the same?

Wow. I hope not. Because no one is going to buy that place....and it will become a huge vacant eyesore. My guess is, it will become a large crack-house - with a view.

How about a multi-level Apple store? That would be cool.

Make it a window tinting headshop.

Is Alto any more/less busy since the WaPo restaurant review? I can't imagine anyone reading that would say "gee honey, let's try this place...maybe the food critic has it all wrong." I received several coupons good for a free entree which MIGHT get me to try it, but the thought of dropping $75-100 for a mediocre meal and crappy service is not a warm one. Would much rather spend the money at Coastal Flats or Artie's and know that I will leave happy.

In normal economic times, the failure rate of new restaurants is very high.

Add the prevailing opinion that this place is lousy...this joint won't be around for it's first anniversary.

Unless you're one of the investors, who cares?

I, for one, care. The County, in it's great wisdom, allowed a massive-ugly structure with sparse landscaping and too few parking spaces to be constructed. Really nice guys, particularly since it is on the border of the historic district you just instituted. Hmmmm. . . oh Yeah 1850's Centreville had Mediterranean architecture.

Not to say "told you so" but told you so. I am not even sure if it can legally be converted into dry cleaners and an acupuncture office, since the County let it go in under-parked!

Historic district?

Tell me more so I can criticize it.

Alto Plaza is passe.

It is time to sell.

THe owners are Salvadroean contractors. Admittedly the aesthetics of the building is descent. However, the concept, crowd and staff are a joke.

Alto Plaza has made some changes in their management team but these new guys seem even more all over the place. They dont know what to do with it. They are now renovating their third floor "formal dining" area. I mean the place is not even a year old and they need to renovate? Obviously they are lost in their own confused complicated concept. Another thing to point out is that the management is very unprofessional and do not know how to conduct business. This is from experience in dealing with them.

I heard that the owner met with investors a few weeks ago and there are improvements happening.... The 3rd floor is getting its own kitchen and some other big things are happening.

I believe the technical term for that particular strategy is "throwing good money after bad."
