Here's the hint - it was the height of the Cold War.

Years...fucking years stalking Eesh on this site and I finally smoked his proverbial red wagon...

Eesh, old boy? All of those images are from the documentary film "Heavy Metal Parking Lot". A film about the pre-show tailgate of a Judas Priest concert...a Judas Priest concert taking place at the Capital Centre...the Capital Centre in Landover...Landover...MARYLAND!

Your honor, I submit the honorable gentleman from Northern Virginia, Sir Eesh, esq. has indeed posted in the WRONG forum and should be sacrificed to 72 virgins at once. His remark, and I quote "1980s Fairfax was metal as fuck" can stand on its own merits without photographical support.

DAMN, Gotcha, not only did you get the year correct, but the what and the where, too. Yes, it is the Universalist Church on Hunter Mill Road. Apparently you know me, but I don't know you, hmmm....

I've not yet read about a lynching in Fairfax County, although the lynching in Leesburg of Charles Craven on July 31, 1902, was perpetrated by a mob of about 300 Fairfax County men. Craven had killed a Fairfax County man named William Wilson a few days before.

It's apparent, years ago Fairfax was a pretty nice place.

I guess thats why some of the elderly folk around here hate all of us Carpetbaggers. I would too.

The unfortunate original residents saw Fairfax go from a from a pleasant, sedate, rural community to a Yuppie laden , third worlder filled , homeless populated , negro saturated, crime ridden, traffic infested, expensive, souless shithole.

Years ago, Amoco's claim to fame was it's "white gas"---because it was clear. All it was was unleaded gas, WAY before the others got the lead out. It's popularity is surprising because unleaded gas could actually be harmful to old engines with non-hardened valve seats, etc. The stuff was the best for use in campstoves and lanterns.

And it was only clear because it wasn't dyed. All gasoline is clear when it's made, they dye it so it can easily be identified as what grade it is.

There is a museum in the basement of the building (now called the Freedom House) on the slave trade. Just walk in and tell the receptionist you want to see it, there is no charge.

Kings Parker-

My mom used to hit that Burger Chef in Annandale on friday's on her way home from the Johnson & Wimsatt lumber yard off Backlick Rd.(then it was Boise Cascade, then the Washington Post plant?) In the late 60's, I think she could get 4 burgers, 4 orders of fries, and 4 milkshakes for less than $5! Cool memories, I miss ma! Thanks!

I believe that's the Penn Daw Volunteer Fire Department on Rt. 1. Just south of Krispy Kreme.

Anyone got a picture of the canon in downtown Annandale? Across from the now closed Fuddruckers, I believe it says on accompanying sign it's a replica of canons used to fight Pancho Villa. Considering the large Hispanic population of that area you'd think they'd demand it's removal. Ole'

Payne's restaurant would be across the street from this. I have no idea if Payne's existed in the 1930's. nowadays it's a kim chi bakery
