Yes. Conveniently located near the Old Courthouse.

Historians don't know precisely where either was.
Somewhere around Tysons, between the DMV and Stargate/toilet bowl.

Plenty of threads on this if you bother to search.

The road was originally Gallo, after Italians that grew grapes and made wine, pranksters added the w s after they left for California as no one was much of a whiner in Virginia at the time and there where plenty of whiners heading to the golden state.

They should have stayed in Virginia. Nova's overran with liberal Democrat whiners today, sales at 7-11 are MAGA for whiners that like the cheap stuff

Now there was a courthouse, a old courthouse road and a area named Freedom Hill up that way

http://www.fairfaxunderground.com/forum/read/2/269229.html

Dammn some one beat to the wine joke 9 years ago may have been the pranksters that changed the name .That's all the history youll get on Google, and it all came from NOVAS history site, FXU lol

Starting salary was 764 a month in 1975, big money! You got a new car at graduation and were paid for 1 meal per shift and you could not live in your home county when you started. And those VSP Plymouths back then could hit 140 with that 440 under the hood and that's no laugh ! Coal mine strikes getting wild in SW Va and 100 down I 81 which was fairly new then ..Side arm was a .38 special blue steel S&W Model 10 with 158 grain round nose ammo , and in many Virginia counties at night you could be the only lawman out there on the road for miles around.

Treat people fairly with respect no matter what race or religion they are ,and you will be treated fairly and your badge respected too and that was the VSP's creed even back then

Bobs Big Boy was the first on the double burgers with the half bun between them and I always thought they were the best, much more expensive then the others

The Big Mac then The Big Chef I liked both and also liked many of Burger Chefs offerings and why they closed , have to Wonder if Richard Nixon's brother Donald was a partner, he was the only person in So Cal that went bankrupt selling hamburgers , its pretty funny now, about his brother and I still think Richard Nixon was a good president

I had to look it up, I heard that one a long time ago but never got the details and saw this lol

http://mentalfloss.com/article/62576/how-burger-joint-almost-ruined-richard-nixon

"A lot of presidents seem to have “that” brother. Jimmy Carter had Billy, and Bill Clinton has Roger. Then there’s Don Nixon.

Back in the ‘50s, Dick’s younger brother, Don, ran a chain of drive-in burger joints in California. Customers could enjoy fish sticks and fries for just 40 cents, a banana split for 25 cents, or a “Nixonburger” with cheese for 20 cents.

Despite these reasonable prices and a family-friendly atmosphere, Nixon’s wasn’t doing so well. In 1956, Don took a loan of $205,000 from Howard Hughes—yes, Spruce Goose Howard Hughes—in order to keep his operations afloat. When Dick Nixon’s opponents dug up this dirt during the campaign season for the 1960 elections, the press had a field day with it. Tricky Dick’s political enemies insisted it proved Hughes had a stronghold over the family, and the whole affair became a punchline for political cartoons and practical jokers. During a campaign stop in San Francisco’s Chinatown, the future president was convinced to pose for a photo op in front of a large banner with Chinese characters written on it. A resident eventually whispered to him that the sign read, “What about the Hughes loan?”

Later the same day, Nixon was having lunch with community leaders when fortune cookies were passed out post-meal. After the entire crowd broke out laughing, he discovered that the paper inside each cookie read,

“Ask him about the Hughes loan.”

Though there were other contributing factors to JFK’s eventual election win that year, the Nixonburger Scandal was right up there. And to add insult to injury, the loan ended up being completely useless: Despite the money, the restaurants went under and Don filed for bankruptcy in 1961. Don worried that he had cost his brother the election, and Nixon assured him that the scandal only had an impact in California, which they won anyway.

However, during testimony over the Watergate scandal years later, it became clear that the elder Nixon never did regain much trust in his younger brother: Dick admitted to having his brother’s phone wiretapped to monitor any shady business dealings.

Was EESH working in a Chinese fortune cookie place back then lol

I grew up in Kings Park in the 1970's and there were many VW family buses brought home by the Major or Lt. Col. from their tour in West Germany.

In the late 60's and early 70's it was easy to do before all of the regulations about safety and emissions standards.

VWs are very American

My family owned several VW Beetles in the late seventies/early eighties. I was just a little kid at the time but remember watching my older brothers and dad pull an engine out, take it apart, replace gaskets and seals and reinstall it in a couple of hours on a Saturday afternoon at our house. Don't remember them taking those Beetles to a mechanic for anything.

There was some parade in Springfield in the early fall, Springfield Days?? It had marching bands, floats, old cars, etc.

I know that as a Marching Colonial, the TJ band marched over the bridge over 95 going from Vallee's parking lot into "downtown Springfield." Many years ago.

Lee High School was built on land that used to be the Springfield Airport. Probably some type of homage to the history of the area. Also, on the front of the truck it says "Café ????"(cannot make out second word). Could it have been a local business?

I don't know why but am disappointed. The 1972 imagery was the layer closest in time to the demise of the W&OD (50 years ago this month) and is useful for looking at a booming time in Fairfax County development. I see they have added imagery from 1960 and 1976. The latter is in color and with good resolution. The former is useful as soon before the construction of the Beltway. (It shows Dolley Madison from the GW Parkway to Chain Bridge Road on the east side of McLean, before it was extended through McLean to the new Beltway/123 interchange near Tyson's Corner.

^they must have just added those two years. I’m excited to explore those years but I do remember the 1972 photos were very clear and I hope they make them available again.

They really had that drive-in tucked away in there. Without the wall around it, the neighbors could have filled their lots up with cars.

Interesting photos, I guess. But I do not support people making a living off of predatory practices. Towing companies like Willow Springs suck. They can literally ruin someone's life with one tow.

This is a cool site. Yes, Primo's is still there, but it was sold to new ownership somewhere around 2007, I think. (Not quite as good as the original!)

You are living paycheck to paycheck. They tow your vehicle. That's $180. You don't have $180. Everyday your vehicle sits on their lot is $$$$. Now you also do not have a vehicle to get to work and maybe work for an employer who is unforgiving. Miss a day or two of work because you can't get there and they fire you. Now you cannot pay your rent and get evicted. Ya, I would say that could really fuck up someone's life. Not everyone around here is living the dream and sponging off the government. Douche.

So, who are you "blaming" in that scenario?

Just because you make sh** for money, doesn't mean you can park on someone else's property against posted parking rules.

And then, you get towed, and your car sits in some lot that some guy has to pay for, whether it is rent, mortgage, taxes, or otherwise...and you want that guy to store your car for free?

Even when I was in my early 20's and made NO money, I understood that ours is a free enterprise, capitalistic society...everything costs something. Nothing is free.

You don't make very much money, and can't afford the fees associated with towing?

Then, guess what? Park more carefully.

Free advise.

Be very careful when you venture away from your parents driveway.

Drive carefully, park legally, and always wear clean underwear.

Looks like the one that was located at the corner of Routes 123 and 1 in Woodbridge.

Thanks.

Fairfax County Library's interface is terrible though.

Easiest way I could find to view things directly is to pick the book, then 'show all,' then pick the PDF file from the list.
